AAEE ACT: The Host Chapter
AAEE ACT
The ACT Chapter provides a forum for people working and volunteering in government and community to come together to share ideas. The ACT Chapter works with Australian Sustainable Schools Initiative (AuSSI) in providing workshops to enable teachers, parents and community members to become enthused and confident in implementing environmental education into the curriculum and the management of ACT schools and their communities.
The ACT Chapter has members comprising of those interested in broad environmental education, people working in community education, the public service, teachers and students in the formal school sector and tertiary education. Information about action in the local area is shared and members are part of a network with some specialist interests relating to environmental education.
For example; the ACT AAEE Chapter together with the ACT members of Interpretation Australia developed a calendar of activities for the members of both organisations to attend.
AAEE members as a body corporate commit themselves to these six aims:
1. to seek to form partnerships in particular with youth groups
2. to provide a network for dissemination of information to educators at the local level
3. to explore ways for AAEE to increase its capacity to bridge the gap between international and national policy and action at the local level
4. to offer professional development opportunities in environment education for our members
5. to seek to form specialist groups within AAEE where there is a need.
6. to support and complement the international framework, actively promoting a network of tertiary, school and community educators, public and private sector people interested in local environmental education.

Making a Difference: We believe sustainability education is vital
AAEE exist to provide a forum for the Australian community to share their knowledge and expertise. It also serves to represent environmental educators discussions, debates and recommendations to issues and directions for a sustainable future. AAEE has a 10 step vision for the community and your are invited to read and consider how you can support this.
AAEE’s approach to promoting environmental education is positive, cooperative and inclusive. Over almost 30 years, AAEE has worked with government and non-government organisations in the interests of quality education and environmental change.
In Australia and globally, education is increasingly recognised as a vital means of achieving sustainability. Environmental education has evolved from nature studies to sustainability education, and from information provision to community development which enables people to ‘get out there and do it themselves’ — at home, at work and at school.
AAEE also includes a number of Special Interest Groups (SIG's) for members: Indigenous Knowledge; Teacher and Teacher Educator; Early Childhood; Decade of Education for Sustainable Development; Early Career Researchers; Vocational Education Training; Transformative Learning. AAEE has professional links with similar associations and it is through strong partnerships like these that we ensure a positive, cooperative and inclusive framework for change through education.
