Monash University
Named after engineer, military leader and public administrator Sir John Monash, Monash University was established in 1958. Since the first students began their studies at the university’s foundation campus in 1961, Monash has grown to become Australia’s largest university.
Monash is the youngest member of the Group of Eight, the coalition of Australia’s most prestigious research-intensive universities. The university’s youthfulness shows through in the way it approaches education and research. It isn’t wedded to convention or tradition, which means students are offered a first-class education while being encouraged to become agents of change.
Indeed, the concept of transformation lies at the heart of the Monash philosophy. For students, researchers and staff, that philosophy is not only about transforming their own lives but also making a difference to the lives of others.
With more than 270,000 graduates across the world, campuses in Malaysia and South Africa, an education and research centre in Italy, a joint-research academy in India, the Southeast University-Monash University Joint Graduate School in Suzhou, China and a truly unique alliance with the University of Warwick in the UK, Monash is a global university with the ambition and ability to address momentous global challenges. |

ANU Research School of Social Sciences
The Research School of Social Sciences was one of the four foundation research schools of the
Australian National University. For decades it has been a leader in social sciences research. It has a proud history and a wonderful depth of talent and outstanding scholarship.
Under the leadership of its current Director, Professor Adam Graycar, the Research School of Social
Sciences contributes to public debates in Australia and internationally across the whole social sciences
spectrum. It convenes workshops, public lectures, debates and roundtables that address issues of
public and community importance, and reaches out throughout the research community, both nation-wide
and internationally.
Situated within the College of Arts and Social Sciences, the School is Australia’s major institution for
theoretical and empirical research in the social sciences and has an international reputation for
exceptional social science research and training. It has both undergraduate and graduate teaching
programs, and we are proud that we teach what we research. As well as contributing to significant
academic endeavours, the ANU Research School of Social Sciences is building an engagement strategy
to ensure that our work is valued beyond academia, especially in government and in civil society.
In addition to the disciplinary Schools of History, Philosophy, Political Science, and Sociology, the
School has several centres, all of which have a multidisciplinary quality that encourage collaboration
among social scientists across disciplinary boundaries. These include the Centre for Aboriginal
Economic Policy Research, Transnational Research Institute on Corruption, Centre for Arab & Islamic
Studies, Centre for Policy Innovation and the National Centre for Biography to name a few.
The innovative research culture of the Research School of Social Sciences, its strong disciplinary and
interdisciplinary focus, its supportive intellectual environment and its experienced staff combine to
ensure a quality learning and research intensive teaching environment. |
